Engineers, IT professionals, scientists and planners are all responsible for making decisions that effect the lives of others. As a professional, you need to ensure that you are making decisions based on the best available evidence.

The Engineers Australia Code of Ethics states that engineers need to "Act on the basis of adequate knowledge" (2018, sec.2.3).

The Planning Institute of Australia Code of Professional Conduct goes further, requiring that all planners have a “Commitment to good planning principles and decisions based on facts and evidence” (2018, p.3).
