Secondary Education

Program Coordinator - Yvonne Salton

The Bachelor of Education (Secondary) prepares students to teach children between the ages of 12 – 18.  This program develops pre-serviced educators knowledge in two chosen discipline areas, teaching areas, as well as how to teach in each.  As part of the secondary program, pre-service educators must, in their first semester be engaged in learning within a number of schools to accomplish all aspects of their degree.  They are also required to complete 100 hours of professional experience within a secondary school setting.  Pre-service educators who choose to become secondary school teachers have a focus on specialising on developing adolescent students in an area of study, yet must also be prepared to be able to run home rooms; literacy and numeracy groups; as well as be involved in extra-curricula activities.  This program provides access to all the understanding required to engage with children in the secondary sector.
